My 5 mo old son was just hospitalized after his third episode of coughing and breathing problems. I want to become a pediatrician when I grow up. i first learned of Cystic Fibrosis when I started watching the Discovery health channel. I watch this channnel because I'm getting prepared to take care of sick and healthy children in a couple of years. i go to Loyola University in Chicago, and I'm a freshman. I thought that cystic fibrosis only happened in England. I thought that because when I wathc children's hospital in Birmingham, England I notice that there is a high number of Cystic Fibrosis. I also thought that it only happened to caucasians. I read that it isn't common, but there are a few African-Americans, and hispanics who have it. It'e rare but it happens. I wish that there was a cure for this disease, but all you can do is take the medicine and do breathing therapy. I learned how to do the percussion therapy. I practice on my doctor doll, because I know I will be caring for children who have cystic fibrosis. I can't wait to be a pediatrician. I am angry that there is no cure for cystic fibrosis, because no one should have to suffer like that. My parents told me that maybe I can find a cure, since I want to be a doctor. They told me that it's up to me, and some of my peers who also want to bec doctors and nurses. I pray to God that there will be a cure one day. God Bless you, and hang in there. It was great to visit a web site of a fellow 20-something CFer. I am 24 and have known about my CF since I was 6 months old. I have cystic a little bit more advanced than yourself. It's great to hear that this is your first time on IV, and even better to hear that you can still work. I was wondering if you face any problems with not being able to work because your CF has made you too tired due to fighting infections, or if you know of someone I can contact that does have these problems. Even though I'm 24 I've pretty much faced CF alone. Also, did you have any problems buying your house having CF? My fiance and I are looking to buy a house and I don't know if we can afford it with all my medical bills and our low to moderate income. Did you use any resources? Or special mortagage rates due to your CF? Other than my questions, I just wanted to say keep up the great work with your health and living your life!! Great job on the website!!

Hello everyone, Well, I'm home for two weeks with 4 IV treatments a day (a central venous line or PICC line was placed in my arm thursday and the line goes in my vein from my arm to my chest). Three, 40 minute iv's of Fortaz(antibiotic) and one hour long IV of Tobi. First time for the IV's so I guess you could say I'm lucky. The best thing is I can still work at home with my job so I won't miss any days. And another great thing is that I'm at home. If this were 10 years ago, I probably would be sitting in the hospital for two weeks, but now I have my wife administer the IV's for me every day so it's working out good. It's still a little scary knowing that I have to be on IV antibiotics, but I know it will get me back to where I need to be (breathing and feeling better).

I am researching cf for a school project. i just wanted to say that this is a horrible disease and no one should have to live with it. (but then ya'll already know that). Im 18 and I live in Ireland and I must say that you are very lucky because your strain of CF appears to be mild. I hope you appreciate how lucky you are as not to have been hospitalised with it. I myself do not have a particularly bad strain of it, but I have been in hospital with a few chest infections over the last couple of years. Hi,My name is Liz, I am 18 years old and a college student in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I have an assignment to do a 5-10 minute informative speech. I chose CF because I don't think anyone in my class knows what it REALLY is. My friend died Dec. 5th in '97 from CF. Nathaniel B. Heitman was his name and he was only 13. Well we were friends from the age of five and lived only 4 houses away from each other. Anyway he was my best friend and I know how hard it is, without even having the disease, I've been through the heart ache. my son recently is going through testing, he is three years old and has a new baby brother, he has only had chronic diarrehea for about six months they decieded as a precaution to do a sweat test just to make sure to rule out cf the dr said he probaly doesnt have it but his test came back abnormal so they did it again it came back abnormal, me and my husband are devastated, no one in either sides of our family have it, so where did it come from.we go and see a specialist tomorrow hopefully it will be ok.

I went to have lunch today and I ran into my friend. He had just gotten back from the doctor and was celebrating. The doctor told him he was doing great and he would live atleast another 6 months. My friend will turn 30 this fall. He is about as ornery as they come. Sometimes I forget that he is sick. After having lunch with him I decided to get some more info on cf. Your sight was wonderful. I have a customer/friend whose grandson (aage 6) has CF, even though he was very ill during his first few years, he just had a lung test last week, he is doing remarkably well. He races micro-midgets and is very good at it. We are in the process of trying to get him some major sponsors. Hi- I'm 33 and was diagnosed with CF at age 19. I've been married for 5 years and my husband I are trying to start a family (unsuccessful so far). My younger brother also has CF, but is in great health! He has never been treated for a CF related illness (he is now 31 yr. old). He is also married and wanting to start a family but found out he is sterile. My health is generally good. When I was a senior in high school I had to pick a book to do a book report on and I just randomly picked a book and it was written by a mother who's daughter had CF. I had never even heard of the book before this. The mother had found her daughter's diary and in the book refered to us her daughter's stuggles with this disease. I loved the book. I am a Kindergarten teacher of a little girl whose mommy has CF. She has been given two months to live. I was visiting the site hoping I could find a miracle. Your site was very interesting, Im glad there is support for families and victims of CF.
PS: She tried to be placed on a transplant list but was denied and told to go home and get her affairs in order. I'm am so angry, it kills me to know that a little girl and her 4 year old brother are going to loose their mother. I know life isn't fair but I don't know how to deal with this.
