My husband is 25 and has CF. I think you have a great web page but you really need to update your information about lung transplants. I believe you said they aren't done very often but they are!! My husband is on the waiting list now! He is actually number 2 in his blood type! CF patients that get double lung transplants can never get CF in their lungs again. There are antirejection medications you will have to take for the rest of your life but what is a few more pills for healthy lungs!! I know many, many patients that have had double lung transplants and are leading very exciting normal, healthy lives. Take Care and God Bless you all! I will keep each of you in my prayers.

As for me, I am 18, attending college and in very good health. My family and boyfriend are all very supportive and make me take care of myself! If anyone has any questions about CF please ask, because I try to learn all I can about it. The biggest thing for me in keeping a positive outlook on life has been my relationship with God. Thank you for your great site. My son was diagnosed with CF at 5 weeks. I was shocked to read the stories of American and English families finding their children had CF at 10 years of age. In australia we have a newborn screening test that can diagnose CF within a few weeks enabling treatment to begin straight away. Maybe parents need to lobby the medical boards to make this testing standard in all new born babies. It involves a heel prick blood test at three days and picks up many common genetic diseases including CF. although it was a shoch at first i am very greatful we found out early and have been able to begin enzymes and pysiotherapy at a young age. We have also had the opportunity to join a reseach study to test a new treatment that may help in the development of improved antibiotics. Thanks again for your site.

By reading your homepage I have learned so much about CF. I knew it was a terminal illness and that was about it. My cousin (god son) who just turned 4 has CF. We found out he hold CF when he was 3 (in 1999). I was so scard and I kept thinking in my head "he doesn't have cystic fibrosis, he just has a cold". Like you he never has been in the hospital, yet he does have to go to Atlanta every 3 months for check ups and to see how much he is growing. He also takes his medicane with apple sause. Hey, I also just want to give up sometimes, i just think 'whats the point' i even thought of suicide once, but then i couldnt to that to my family. My mother passed away in June 99' with cancer, and ive deteriorated since then, as Mum was the one that always kept me going. I have two sis and dad ofcourse, and now my eldest sis (19) is the one that keeps me going, but now she's moved out of our place and is living with her boyfriend, so now im stuck with a sister (15) that always saying that im going to die soon, which as you can imagine doesnt do alot for my self-esteem. is there anyone in New Zealand with CF reading this, or any young people (11-14)who wouldnt mind e-mailing me or something, im 12, male, New Zealand of course!!! thanx, i hope someone reads this, Laterz.

I had the most wonderful grandson there ever were,and we lost him December 26,1999,at the age 15,He was a good boy never complained,worried about others befor himself,Roger's other two brothers did't have CF and we all looked after roger,Befor Roger passed on he had 2 things that were very important to him,that he felt he had to do,and finish and that was (drivers education,and a intertainment center)For his mother for christmas,and He did finish both.when Roger walked in a room with other people the hold room lite up. He wanted a computer but we could not afford one at that time so now we have this one and every time i get on it i fill like he's in here with me.we all miss him so much,and when i found your web site i had to come in and this is the most wonderful web site i have visited.and alot of people don't know what CF is all about an i feel like more web sites like this one is a lot of help to others. for we did't know any thing about CF, when Roger was diagnosis at the age 5,we were told he would,t make it to age 8 and he lived to be 15,and in the 10th grade. sorry to take so much time but this fills so good to talk to someone about Roger who knows what CF is all about. My friend Gary, has become like the little brother I never had within a few years. He is a 17 year old boy, living with CF and it's very difficult for him to understand things, He wants to be like the "other" boys and he can't, it frustrates him and I would love some info I could share with him about living with this disease. Somedays are easier then other for him but he just can't understand. Thank you for this wonderful webpage you have designed. I have printed out some of it to bring to the hospital for him to read. He is currently in there (AI Dupont Children's Hosp.) with pneumonia and will be getting another G'tube put in next week. My sister has CF and will be 29 on her birthday. She is a very beautful woman and has a lot going for her. She looks likes she is doing well but that doesn't mean she feels well all of the time. My mother on the other hand is about ready to fall apart. I am only 26 and have only the one sibling and mother says I have to be the strong one for everybody. I try not to show sypathy or strong feelings about her CF but is is hard. Everyone out there that reads these, please pray for eveyone. God is on our side!

My lifelong friend died 8/15/00 after a 42 year fight with CF. This was the sweetest and most beautiful friend anyone could ever ask for. Her family has devoted their life to seeking treatment in hopes that in her lifetime a cure would be found. She was waiting for a donor for a lung transplant but her little body just could'nt hold out any more. She was a strong lady and fought so many battles throughout her life. I will miss her terribly but have so many wonderful memories of our childhood together as we grew up and all the things we did and all the secrets we shared.
So, Scharlet Renee Daenen Walters, you will never be forgotten. We will go on each day loving and missing you and remembering how strong you were.

I work at a summer camp in Nebraska and for the last four years I have spent the last week of my summer volunteering the week for kids with CF. I have become VERY close to many of them, and have cried many nights because of a phone call about the death. I have sat in the hospital while they took friends off of life support due to not takin their meds. Recently I have started Dating a guy with CF, he is wonderful! We just attended the wedding of another friend who is living with CF, but his girlfriend is pregnant and I am worried, will the child definatly have CF? Please e~mail me and let me know....

I was diagnosed with CF when I was 5 months old. And although my life hasn't been easy, I have reamined fairly healthy. I am considered to have more minor case of CF, but from time to time I still have my share of hspitalizations. I am 20 now and doing very very well and I plan to stay that way. My only struggle right now is my health insurance that i won't have when I turn 21, can someone please e-mail me if they know of anything that would be helpful. I am the grandmother of 3 grandsons who have CF. The first one was diagnosed in California at 6 months old in May, 2000, due to "failure to thrive". This was the first our family had ever heard of the condition and have absolutely no known family history of it. As a result of the baby's condition his 1st cousins were recommended to be tested. This is how we found out a month later that 2 boy cousins aged 12 and 13 living in Oregon also have CF. The older boy's lungs are already affected as we were under the impression he had allergies and asthma that caused his coughing. His younger brother had no symptoms except for occasional sinus headaches, which surprised us when he also tested positive. Our extended family is now in the process of being tested. The problem we are having to contend with, is that most general MD's and pediatricians are not as informed about this condition as we expected them to be. In fact, when calling and asking to be tested, we were told by 3 different doctors that it would not be necessary as most diagnois are made at infancy. Had we not strongly insisted on further testing the older boys would never have been diagnosed. My question is: Why has there not been a bigger push to educate the general practitioners in the medical field??? My own doctor simply handed me some copies of facts he printed off the Internet to read. (Facts, that I had already found on my own research, I might add.) To answer your question below.
Alcohol affects a CF person the same as a normal person. The more you drink the more you get whoozy and sick.
That's from my experience. Yes I do like to have a drink once in a while (Holidays). Of course, I still watch myself because I do have a disease. It can be different from one person to another.

Hi my name is Rebecca, I'm 19 years old and I don't have CF but when i was nine my best friend died of CF. I was always confused as to what it was and why she had to take so much medication all the time, and of course confused as to why she died. I'm doing an assignment at the moment and i chose to use CF as my topic becasue i've always been curious about it. Other web sites hepled me a lot but it was great to hear some info and how you deal with it etc from personal experience. Hi there, first off I'd like to say I enjoyed visiting your website. I am a 23yr old nurse and i work in a basic peds unit at Loma Linda Childrens Hospital here in southern California. I recently met an 11yr old patient with CF. He was in for a tune up, and I took care of him for the last two days before he went home. We had a blast. His parents were hardly there and so he hung out with us. I really felt bad for him that he didnt have any family there so he became my new "best friend". He went to lunch with me, ate his dinner at the nursing station while i did my charting, I even stayed until almost 10pm one night, when i get off work at 7pm. because he was telling me funny jokes. To make a long story short, taking care of him really touched my life, and sparked an interest in CF. Which brought me to your website. I wish you all the best in life. My older brother has CF. I adore him and can't imagine life with out him. He is 32 and has been married for 4 years. He is a very talented lawyer and the coolest brother anyone could have. His wife is a vet. I also have a younger sister, but both she and I do not have CF.
I guess the website is a good idea, but it is scary to read about how many children have cf and how many more parents have to deal with this.
