Up Curriculum On-line Earth Science Assignments 02-03

Earth and Space Science is the study of  Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography and Astronomy. By the end of this course the student will have a better  appreciation of how the earth came to be in its present state and the processes that continue reshape the planet. Emphasis is placed on what is unique to our particular area, here in northwest Pennsylvania.

Through field and laboratory exercises students will gain hands-on experience with observation, data gathering and analysis, hypothesis testing, drawing conclusions, and making reports of their findings.

Students will be expected to complete reading assignments and take quizzes on what they have been assigned. Math is integrated throughout the course and problem solving is emphasized. Essay tests are often given and the essay questions are given out well ahead of time. There are several units in which the student will make extensive use of the internet.

Students are encouraged to take on extra credit projects. These projects should be long range and must be approved by the teacher.

Creek Connections provides many opportunities for field, lab and report making projects.

This we know: the earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth. This we know. All things are connected like the blood which unites one family. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth. Man did not weave the web of life: he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.
