This is a Pre-Algebra course . Students who complete this course will be prepared to take Algebra 1. Geometry and statistics topics are integrated with algebra topics throughout the course. Calculators are used selectively in the course. Emphasis is placed on making routine calculations without calculators, but graphing calculators will be used for data manipulation in statistics and for finding regression equations. Pretests are always given prior to each test. The test questions are then of the same type and difficulty as those on the pretest. Usually, a first pretest is given, on which students may seek help from the teacher, the text, their notes, and other students. Then a second pretest is given under test-like conditions. Homework assignments are frequent but usually limited to ten problems or less. There is no extra credit. About 75% of the student's grade will be from test scores with the remainder from homework and labs. |
