Notes For EACH

November EACH Meeting: All Saint's Day Party

We will be meeting this year to celebrate All Saints at Holy Cross Church in Fairview. Please arrive on Nov. 1st at 6:45p.m. Children and adults who would like to participate can do the following: * Select a saint * Dress as the saint * Compose a limerick about the saint * And finally, present yourselves the evening of All Saints for the members of our audience to guess who you are.

I will add a couple words about limericks. They are generally 5 lines long. The 1st, 2nd, and 5th lines end in rhyme. The 3rd and 4th end in a different rhyme. For Example:

One day a holy friar wished to preach He begged for an audience to teach The folks did not care But a river was there So he spoke to the fish at the beach. St Anthony

See what you can do with it. It should be fun.

Scheduled activities for Nov. 1st: 6:45 Arrive 7:00 Opening prayer and prayer for deceased family and friends. Prayer calendar for November will be passed out for all families to take home. 7:15 All Saints presentations 8:15 Alms for the poor 8:30 All Saints merriment and feast 9:00 Depart for home

Very Important: Membership Dues are Due The school year of 2000-2001 membership dues of $15.00 per family need to be given to Bill Swick by October's end. The dues are used to fund the monthly newsletter, buy supplies for meeting, and to help pay for group activities. With any questions please call Gretchen Lorei at 866-3008. You can get the money to Bill Swick by mailing it to him at 1713 W 6th Street Erie 16505. Those familes who have not paid will not receive December's newsletter!!

Christmas

December's meeting is tentatively scheduled for December 6th. We hope to have the Christmas store again. The most common comment from last year was that it would have been nice to have had the meeting earlier in December because most of the Christmas shopping had already been done. Keeping this thought in mind, we are putting this announcement in the newsletter early to give moms and dads more notice and time to make that list and check it twice. Just as last year, there will be gifts geared for children to buy and larger items for parents. Look for more information in the next newsletter.

Little Flowers

The next meeting for the Little Flowers is on the 2nd Friday of November, November 10th at 9:00 am at the Lorei's home.

Mother's Meeting

There will be a Mothers Meeting on October 28th. It will begin with 8:00a.m. Mass at St. Georges' Church followed by 9:00a.m. breakfast at Eat 'n Park on upper Peach St. (no reservations are necessary)

JUMP-A-THON REPORT

Approximately 25 EACH students had a "hoppin" good time at the "Jump For Life" jump-a-thon on October 4! The evening was filled with children jumping, jump roping, shooting jump shots... and smiling! Many of the children exceeded their own expectations of how many "jumps" they would accomplish in their two-minute time period. We are so proud of all the children for their wonderful efforts! Not only did the children's efforts generate lots of panting smiles, they also generated money that will be donated to our local pro-life organization, People for Life, Inc. I don't have a total figure to report yet since some of the children still need to collect from their sponsors; but so far, over $270 has been turned in! In the next newsletter I'll give you the final amount that we turn in to People for Life. (If you still haven't turned in your jump-a-thon money by the time you receive this newsletter, it's past due. Please get it to me ASAP. Thanks!) Thank you again to all of the parents who helped out that evening! You really helped it all run so smoothly. Congratulations again, kids, on a job well done! God bless you!

Latin

We would like to get together with Fr. Fischer, from St. Lawrence in Albion, to go over Latin pronunciation. 6 weeks into the school year is a great time to review the beginnings of this wonderful language. Anyone using Latin Christiana who would like to meet with Fr. Fischer should be close to completing the first 5 lessons (the first test covers chapters 1-5). This will give Father a fair amount of material to review with us. Anyone else not using this curriculum but who would like to brush up on their Latin is more than welcomed to join us. Please contact Kathleen Peterson for more information. A date has not yet been set; I need to know how many students are interested and how far along in the book they are. Call or email me, Kathleen Peterson, roaminka@velocity.net .

A Letter left at E.A.C.H. website:

Dear Homeschool Organizer,

Although I have spoken with many of you before, some may be reading my name for the first time. I am the Homeschool Admissions Counselor at Notre Dame College of Ohio, a small, private, Catholic liberal arts college located here in South Euclid, a beautiful eastern suburb of Cleveland.
I'm writing to you today to ask for your help in getting the word out that Notre Dame College is actively recruiting bright homeschooled students.
When I joined the Admissions staff in April, I quickly learned that our college president believes very strongly in the homeschooling movement, and that we've had very positive experiences with homeschooled students in the past. Although I had no previous experience working with homeschoolers, after hearing such positive comments, I volunteered to focus on this community in my efforts to bring quality students to Notre Dame.

At our General Meeting in August, President Deming announced that recruiting homeschoolers will be a crucial component of our strategy to keep the college strong as we move into the next century. (Those of you who have met me in the past will be surprised to learn that we are also now admitting male students into all programs.) Recruiting homeschoolers suddenly jumped from my pet project to a major college initiative! This announcement was perfectly timed, as our fall travel and recruiting season was about to begin.

A few days ago, I mailed information to several homeschool organizations in Ohio and its neighboring states, including a travel schedule listing dates and locations of college fairs where Notre Dame representatives will be available to meet with prospective students and their families. However, there are many of you for whom I have email addresses but no surface mail information.

If you know a teenager who is interested in going to college, or if you'd like some materials for your own records, I'd be happy to send you some printed materials, including information about academic programs, scholarships and grants available to homeschoolers, and athletics. In addition, I invite you to visit us on the web at http://www.ndc.edu.

Please accept my sincere thanks for taking the time to review this message and for your help in getting the word out that Notre Dame College of Ohio wants to be the school of choice for college-bound homeschoolers. If you have any questions or concerns, if you'd like to receive the information mentioned above, of if I can be of assistance in some other way, please don't hesitate to email me or call me directly at the number below. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours truly,

Michele Doney
