General Directions:
Begin with properly cleaned and fired 06 bisque. Thin down White and apply over
entire piece to get into all detail. When dry, apply another smooth coat of
undiluted White. Allow to dry. Apply Hyacinth Blue in small areas wiping back
for highlights until entire piece is covered. Dampen a soft cloth with Solvent
to wipe back further highlights and an overall even look to antiquing. Spray
with Porcelain Mist to set TL. Reminder: In this technique, sometimes
more than 1 coat of TL is necessary so between each coat, the color must be
sprayed in order not to lift the first layer. Refer to photo for color
placements in various sections.
Technique
1.
Apply Black TL to the cobblestones and sidewalk. Wipe back
highlights; spray. Randomly drybrush a few cobblestones with Brick Red, Light
Gray and Mink. Lightly highlight with Light Gray. Evenly drybrush the sidewalk
Medium Gray; highlight with Light Gray then tip into White to further highlight.
2.
In the white areas, apply 3 to 4 coats of White Cloud. This
area includes the inner part of the support beams closest to the building.
Spray between each coat and allow to dry before applying next layer.
3.
For the yellow areas, use 3 to 4 coats of Sunflower. This
is primarily all trim, front door, sign and rings on body of building. Lightly
drybrush highlights with Lemon Meringue then tip into White to further
highlight.
4.
Apply 2 coats of Holiday Red to the trim and back of sign, 2
rings on the top ornament, main ring, outside edge of supports, kitchen eave and
bottom panels of entire building. Spray. Drybrush Christmas Red in these areas
to highlight; then tip into Orange Peel to further highlight.
5.
Apply Black TL to the sign supports, center of top ornament,
back door, kitchen louvers and roof, and trim around front door. Spray; then
drybrush with Shimmering Silver.
6.
Detail front sign lettering with Flat Black and “Otto’s”
with Christmas Red. Door handle and knob is Flat Black. Highlight front handle
with Shimmering Silver.
7.
Optional: For that “enamel” look, apply 2 coats of Hi-Gloss
Sealer as desired.
