Frequently Asked Questions

(For custom mold making services)

Q.  What kind of molds do you make?
A.  We specialize in the design and manufacturing of quality ceramic slip-casting molds.  However, we also design molds for plaster, resins, and many other casting media.

Q.  I have a great idea, but I don't know what to do.  What's my next step?
A.  Give us a call... then provide us with as much information as possible.  We will assist you in making some critical determinations for feasibility, and perhaps avoid some common problems later in the process.  We will design your idea on paper first, so you can see a two-dimensional rendering of your finished product and make changes if necessary.

Q.  How can I be sure you won't steal my idea?
A.  The easiest answer is that this would be unethical and we guarantee that it will not happen.  However, we also offer a statement of non-disclosure and confidentiality to our clients upon request.  Our business is helping people like yourself make your idea a reality.  We are not in business to manufacture finished goods.

Q. How much will this cost?
A.  This is the most common question that we get.  Unfortunately, there is no straight answer.  Each project must be individually evaluated and assessed based on things like size, complexity, and materials.  We then provide an estimate for each design you would like created.

Q.  How long will it take before my project is done?
A.  That depends on the time of year, and how many are scheduled ahead of you.  Summer is usually our busiest time of the year, and we must work on a "first come - first serve" basis to be fair to everyone.  December through March is typically our slower time, so your turn around time may be faster in the Winter months.  Individual turn over time can be from one to six months or more, so please try and plan far ahead for your deadlines.

Q.  If I send you a piece to be molded, will it be damaged?
A.  Depending on the piece, its construction, integrity and complexity, it could be damaged.  Although, we take every precaution to maintain its safety throughout the process, a better assessment of the piece can be made through photos or when it arrives.

Q.  I just received a job estimate for my ceramic slip casting project.  What are some of these items?
A.  The Sculpting fee is based on how many hours we anticipate putting into your design to have a mold-ready model.  The Master Mold Making fee is our per-mold-piece price for making the original mold off of the model.  The Rubber Die is a flexible mold of the Master Mold ( it includes your first three casting molds), and it is priced by the pound, and your Additional or Production Molds are priced by the pound to complete your order.

Q.  After you make my molds, can you make my castings for me?
A.  Unfortunately not.  We are in business to design and manufacture models and molds only, however, we can assist you in finding a caster who will make your castings.

Q.  How can I be sure that my pieces will sell before I invest in having my molds made?
A.  Unfortunately, you can't.  Every client who has come to us with a unique idea has had this same apprehension.   While our clients enjoy varying degrees of success with their ideas, they are all quite satisfied with the results of our designs and molds.
