Welcome to the Dixie.  This retired street car was purchased by Doug and Dixie Deeterman in 1950 and the two young restaurateurs had their Grand Opening in 1951.  This quaint little diner was a staple in most small towns throughout America in the 1950's and many are still in service today!

General Directions:  Begin with properly cleaned and fired 06 bisque.  Thin down White and apply over entire piece to get into all detail.  When dry, apply another coat of undiluted White.  Allow to dry.  Apply Hyacinth Blue in small areas wiping back for highlights until entire piece is covered.  Dampen a soft cloth with Solvent to wipe back further highlights.  Spray with Porcelain Mist to set TL.

1.      Apply Black TL to the cobblestones, front doors and back door. Wipe back highlights on stones.  Apply Black Forest to the grass; then wipe back highlights.  Spray.  Highlight grass with Sunflower and Tangelo.  Spray.

2.      Randomly drybrush a few cobblestones Medium Gray, Brick Red and Mink.  Evenly drybrush walk path, sidewalk and side step with Medium Gray.  Lightly add highlights with White.

3.      Apply Brandied Raspberry to the body of the diner and kitchen.  Lightly wipe back highlights.  Spray.  Drybrush highlights with Razzberri; tip into White to lightly highlight further.

4.      For the front steps and the foundation for the kitchen, use 2 coats of Golden Toffee.  Spray.  Work some Mink into a drybrush, then tip into White to highlight.  Drybrush the sides of the front steps a bit heavier for trim.

5.      Use 2 coats of Jade Green for the sign and roof of kitchen.  Spray between coats.  Highlight with White.  Evenly drybrush the center of the sign with White then detail with Flat Black.

6.      Evenly drybrush the skirting, window trims and the roof trim with White.  With a pencil, lightly sketch a line around the middle of the skirting.  Create checked pattern with Flat Black.  Spray.

7.      Apply 2 coats of Shimmering Silver to the detail on roof, side doorknob, front door bars and kick plates.  Drybrush louvers in kitchen.

Please Note: When using translucent stains, you must spray after each application of a translucent stain to avoid smudging and smearing the stains. It is not necessary to spray after each application of an acrylic stain. The final spraying is sufficient for the acrylic stains.

Note: If you find a color that is discontinued, ask your Mayco distributor for a suitable replacement.
