by Mayco General Directions: Begin with properly cleaned and fired 06 bisque. Thin down White and apply over entire piece to get into all detail. When dry, apply another coat of undiluted White. Allow to dry. Apply Hyacinth Blue in small areas wiping back details until entire piece is covered. Dampen a soft cloth with Solvent to wipe back further highlights. Spray with Porcelain Mist to set TL. Reminder: In this technique, sometimes more than one coat of translucent is necessary so between each coat, the color must be sprayed to protect the first layer. Technique 1. Apply Black TL to stones and porches. Wipe highlights on stones and roof. Spray. Randomly drybrush a few stones around house with Light Taupe, Brick Red, Dark Gray Blue and Light Gray. Lightly highlight stones with Light Gray then tip into White to further highlight. With same brush, lightly highlight porch. 2. Apply one coat of Black Forest to grass, then spray. When dry, apply a second coat and wipe back highlights. Highlight grass with Sunflower and Tangelo. Spray. 3. Use Golden Twinkle on foundation bricks, porch steps, detail on roof/ primary dormers and chimneys. Spray. Drybrush with Brick Red then tip into Christmas Red to highlight. For steps, paint details with Light Taupe and Dark Brown then lightly drybrush with Light Taupe for highlights/footpath. 4. Detail chimneys with Light Taupe and a brush mix of Dark Brown and Flat Black*. Refer to photo for detail placements. *This brush mix will be called for throughout project. Mix small amounts to detail small areas.* 5. Apply one coat of Gold Doe Skin to all siding, sides of smaller dormers and insets of double framed windows and doors where details were not cut out. Lightly wipe highlights then spray. Drybrush horizontal siding with Light Taupe then highlight with Portrait. Drybrush ‘V’ shingles with Medium Mocha then tip into Portrait to lightly highlight. 6. Use Bay Blue for roof. After the first coat, wipe highlights and spray. When dry, apply a second coat and spray. If highlights were bright enough after applying first coat, none should be needed after second. If roof is still dark, lightly drybrush with Light Gray for added highlights. Paint trim between shingles and top detail with Dark Brown. 7. All eaves under roofline are White as well as trim line above brick foundation. Trim lines above and below each section of siding are White. Single framed windows are Brick Red in middle of house and on dormers. Double framed windows are trimmed on outside with White and inside with *dark brown brush mix. 8. Remaining details are White, Brick Red, Medium Mocha and *dark brown mix. Refer to photo for color placements. Detail around doors with *dark brown mix. Spray then add Hi-Gloss Sealer to doors. Note: Painting a ‘Painted Lady’ is subject to individual taste. They can be bright or subdued. The key is the color palette. It is always odd numbers from 3 to 23. Feel free to change these colors to express your style. |
