General Instructions:

Begin with properly cleaned and fired 04 bisque.  Thin down White and apply over entire piece to get into all detail.  When dry, apply another smooth coat of undiluted White.  When dry, apply Hyacinth Blue in small areas wiping back for highlights until entire piece is covered.  Dampen a soft cloth with Solvent to wipe back highlights for an overall even look to antiquing.  Spray with Porcelain Mist to set TL.   Do not attach water wheel in greenware for ease in painting.

Technique:

 1.   Apply Black TL to roof, smoke stack and inside spokes of water wheel.  Blot dry.  DO NOT WIPE.  Apply Nubian Brown to all wooden areas in same manner as the Black and blot.  Spray and let dry.

 2.  Drybrush roof and smoke stack Flat Black.  Stipple inside spokes of water wheel.  Add Vanilla Ice to brush and drybrush roof.  Using the same brush, stipple inside spokes of water wheel.  Continue adding Vanilla Ice to brush and sporadically drybrush roof until you achieve varying shades of black.  Sporadically drybrush roof VERY DRY with Vanilla Ice to highlight.

 3.  Drybrush the planking on the building and wheel with Dark Brown.  Add Dark Umber and drybrush.  Add Cherokee Tan and drybrush top portion of mill and wheel.  Let the Cherokee Tan touch onto the bottom portion of the building in a zig zag manner but be sure to leave the largest area of the bottom dark.  Add Medium Taupe and highlight only the top of the mill.

 4.  Mix Shimmering Silver with Flat Black in your brush and drybrush the smoke stack and large bolt head in the center of wheel.   Apply Copper to door hinges, door handles, and to all nail heads.

 6.  Apply Holiday Red to top of smoke stack and blot.  Apply Holiday Red sporadically to rocks on base and blot.  In same manner as Holiday Red, apply Black TL , Sable, and Slate Gray to rocks on base.  Spray and let dry.

 7.  Drybrush rocks with Vanilla Ice.  Apply Sable over all rocks and wipe back.  Apply Sable to sand on base and blot.  Spray and let dry.

 8.  Drybrush sand with Cherokee Tan.  Add Medium Taupe and drybrush.  Highlight the sand with Vanilla Ice.

 9.  Drybrush water with Bright Blue.  Add Medium Blue and drybrush.  Add Vanilla Ice and drybrush to lighten.  Add Eggshell to highlight.

10.  Apply Black Forest to grass and blot.  Spray.  Highlight with Sunflower.  Spray.  Glue water wheel onto base.
