General Directions:
Begin with properly cleaned and fired 06
bisque. Thin down White and apply over entire piece to get into all detail.
When dry, apply another smooth coat of undiluted White. When dry, apply
Hyacinth Blue in small areas wiping back for highlights until entire piece is
covered. Dampen a soft cloth with Solvent to wipe back highlights for an
overall even look to antiquing. Spray with Porcelain Mist to set TL.
Technique
1.
Apply Black TL to the cobblestones, sidewalk and bottom section and
bracket of skate sign. Wipe back highlights on cobblestones and sidewalk to a
dark gray color with Solvent. Spray. Apply a second coat to sign areas. Spray.
Randomly drybrush a few stones with Light Gray, Light Umber, Wedgewood Blue and
Brick Red. Highlight sidewalk and roof with Light Gray then further highlight
with White.
2.
Use 2 coats of Slate Gray for flagstone foundation. Spray. Lightly
drybrush with Light Gray then wash over random stones with Light Umber and
Wedgewood Blue. Lightly highlight stone with White.
3.
For the block on the body of building and top and bottom of front
overhang, apply 2 coats of Brandied Raspberry then spray. Highlight block
lightly with Razzberri then tip into White to further highlight.
4.
Use 2 coats of French Blue for stucco areas of columns, spray. Lightly
drybrush center of columns with White.
5.
Apply 3 coats White Cloud to skate then spray. Use one thin coat over
“light columns” and running light eave to tone down blue. Spray. Use Cocoa
Twinkle for sole and stopper of skate, doors and roof. Spray. If needed,
drybrush White over skate to even out color. Lightly drybrush sole of skate,
stopper and roof with Light Umber, then tip into White to further highlight.
6.
Apply Sunflower to the radiant tops and very centers of “light columns”
and door tops. Spray. Highlight with Lemon Meringue then tip into White to
further highlight, especially at the bottom point. Paint window frames with
White. Paint thin detail of overhang and vertical detail of “light columns” with
Flat Black.
7.
Spray entire piece with Porcelain Mist. Use Oyster to highlight center
of stucco columns, radiant tops and “light columns.”
8.
Heavily drybrush the bottom of the skate with Shimmering Silver with the
wheels being more evenly drybrushed. Drybrush sign bracket with Sculptured
Bronze then highlight with Glorious Gold.
9.
At this point there are a number of combinations one may use to create
the illusion of running lights. As they are illustrated, the eave running lights
are Ice Blue, Oyster and Copper. Moving to “light columns”, outside running
lights are Oyster, Copper and Purple. The under set of triangle lights are
Glorious Gold and Ice Blue. The top set of triangle lights are Crystal Green
and Satin Red.
10.
Apply 2 coats of Hi-Gloss Sealer to the skate sign and “light columns.”
