General Directions:
Begin with properly cleaned and fired 06 bisque. Thin down White and apply over
entire piece to get into all detail. When dry, apply another smooth coat of
undiluted White. Allow to dry. Apply Hyacinth Blue in small areas wiping back
for highlights until entire piece is covered. Dampen a soft cloth with Solvent
to wipe back further highlights for an overall even look to antiquing. Spray
with Porcelain Mist to set TL. Reminder: In this technique, sometimes
more than 1 coat of TL is necessary so between each coat, the color must be
sprayed in order not to lift the first layer. Refer to photo for color
placements in various sections.
Technique
1.
Apply Black TL to all the cobblestones, tops of each side of front steps
and all roofs. Wipe back highlights. For the cobblestones, randomly drybrush a
few stones with Light Umber, Brick Red and Light Gray. Lightly drybrush roof
and step tops with Medium Gray; tip into white to lightly highlight all areas
with Light Gray.
2.
Apply Black Forest to the grass and bushes; gently wipe back highlights. Spray. Highlight
grass Sunflower and Tangelo. Bushes should have enough definition without
further highlights.
3.
Use Golden Buckskin over the entire body of the house, front steps and
foundation. With a dampened cloth, wipe back highlights on everything but the
foundation. Spray. Apply a second coat to sides of front steps. Evenly
drybrush front bricks with Brick Red, tip into Light Umber to highlight then
with a clean brush drybrush vertical brick with Medium Gray. Tip into White to
further highlight. For the foundation pattern, drybrush solid square brick with
Brick Red and horizontal brick with Medium Gray. Refer to photo for pattern and
placement.
4.
For the panels below the siding, door and panels at the top and bottom of
turret, use 3 coats of Golden Toffee. Spray and allow to dry between each
coat. Lightly drybrush centers and edges with Medium Mocha then tip into Light
Umber to highlight.
5.
For the primary horizontal siding, apply 2 coats of Antique Ivory. With
the first coat, apply all over and into the crevices; on the second coat apply
to just the edges. Spray between coats. Highlight edges with Lemon Meringue.
6.
Vertical siding, trim under lower dentil work, around door, inner areas
of roof brackets and ornate detail above windows and in peaks of gables apply 2
coats of Forest Green. Spray. Highlight with Country Sage. Lightly highlight
details above windows and on top of turret with Glorious Gold. Refer to photo
for placement.
7.
On all areas of purple…gable end trims, lower dentil work, outer area of
roof brackets, turret top and middle and into uncut window areas, apply Bay
Blue. Spray. Except for window areas, evenly drybrush with Royal Plum, tip
into Deep Magenta to highlight then into White to further highlight edges.
8.
Evenly drybrush upper dentil work below roofline and large corners around
door with White. Paint window trims, trim to separate upper floor and bottom
floor and trim just below roofline with White.
9.
Paint all body trim with Chocolate Fudge. Two coats may be needed.
Lightly highlight all edges with Medium Mocha. Refer to photo as needed for
placement. There should be one final thin trim line that runs ¾ of the way
around the lower part of the building, paint this line Flat Black. On the
turret, there should be 2 lines above the purple trim, paint the one next to
siding and the door handle Flat Black. Spray the entire piece with Porcelain
Mist.
10.
There is one remaining roof trim, trim on the body and ring on top of
turret and all small corner trims left to paint; apply Copper to these remaining
areas. Dot the centers of the large corners around the door. Use Flat Black to
dot the centers of small corner trims. Where needed add a line of black to
separate planes.
