General Directions: Begin with properly cleaned and fired 06 bisque.  Thin down White and apply over entire piece to get into all detail.  When dry, apply another coat of undiluted White.  Allow to dry.  Apply Hyacinth Blue in small areas wiping back for highlights until entire piece is covered.  Dampen a soft cloth with Solvent to wipe back further highlights.  Spray with Porcelain Mist to set TL.  Reminder: In this technique, sometimes more than 1 coat of TL is necessary so between each coat, the color must be sprayed in order not to lift the first layer.

Technique

1.      Apply Black TL to cobblestones, sidewalk, window frames and doors on Jim’s Jewels, chimney and top and bottom of barber pole on Curly’s Cuts and flue on Bob’s Butcher Shop.  Wipe back highlights as desired.  Spray.

2.      Drybrush sidewalk with Slate Gray then tip into Light Gray to add highlights of a walk path.  Randomly drybrush color to cobblestones with Wedgewood Blue, Brick Red, Light Gray and Light Taupe.

Curly’s Cuts

1.      Apply 2 coats of Ginger Oak to the bricks.  Spray between coats.  Lightly drybrush bricks with Yellow Ochre then tip into Lemon Meringue to highlight accent bricks.

2.      Trim of sign and eave is 2 coats of Golden Buckskin.  Spray.  Lightly drybrush with Chocolate.  For corners of sign, paint Brick Red then highlight Country Apple.

3.      Heavily drybrush top and bottom of barber pole with Shimmering Silver.  Evenly drybrush the center of the sign and pole with White.  Refer to photo for color placement.  Paint alternating stripes Country Apple and opposite stripes Ice Blue.

4.      Use 2 coats of Coal Gray for the roof.  Spray.  Drybrush chimney with Slate Gray then highlight with Light Gray.  Highlight roof with Light Gray then White.

5.      Drybrush 2 coats of Medium Mocha to shutters.  Evenly drybrush windowpanes with Buttermilk; including door.  Trim door with Country Apple.  Paint handle Flat Black then highlight Shimmering Silver.  Detail sign as desired.

Jim’s Jewels

1.      Apply 1 coat of Walnut to bricks.  Spray.  Apply a coat of Holiday Red to bricks.  Spray.  Drybrush lightly with Brick Red then tip into Orange to highlight.

2.      Use Bay Blue for the roof, center of sign and round windows.  Spray.  Evenly drybrush with Ice Blue.

3.      Drybrush eave, sign trim, window trims, brick detail with Light Gray.  With this color still in brush, highlight window frames and doors.  Now tip into White to lightly highlight eaves, window trims and brick trim.
