General Directions: Begin with
properly cleaned and fired 06 bisque. Thin down White and apply over entire
piece to get into all detail. When dry, apply another coat of undiluted White.
Allow to dry. Apply Hyacinth Blue in small areas wiping back for highlights
until entire piece is covered. Dampen a soft cloth with Solvent to wipe back
further highlights. Spray with Porcelain Mist to set TL. Reminder: In
this technique, sometimes more than 1 coat of TL is necessary so between each
coat, the color must be sprayed in order not to lift the first layer.
Technique
1.
Apply Black TL to all the stones, chimney, stable doors, people doors and
dirt areas. Apply Black Forest to the grass; wipe back highlights. Spray.
Highlight grass Sunflower and Tangelo. Lightly drybrush foundation stones Black
TL. Spray.
2.
Randomly drybrush cobblestones and chimney Brick Red, Light Gray, Blue
Gray and Mink. Lightly highlight with Light Gray. For foundation stones,
lightly drybrush Gray Blue then tip into White to highlight. Drybrush the flue
Portrait then “dirty it up” by lightly drybrushing the top inside with Flat
Black.
3.
For the dirt, drybrush with Dark Umber then tip into Mink to add
variegated color. Work some Portrait into brush to add more color variegation
then into White to lightly highlight. Work to get a “muddy” look with the
various colors. Up between the stable doors, lightly tap into Hunter Green and
stipple in a “mashed grass” look.
4.
Use Toasted Pecan on all the siding, sign and eaves. Wipe back the
inside of sign. Spray. Evenly drybrush stable and people doors with Brick
Red. Lightly drybrush sign trim and siding only with Brick Red, not trim or
eaves of building. Refer to photo as needed. Evenly highlight trim and eaves
with Portrait then lightly highlight where siding boards meet.
5.
Apply 2 coats of Nubian Brown to porch, pillars and roof; apply another
coat to roof. Spray. Drybrush porch Dark Umber, highlight with Lt Yellow
Orange then tip into Portrait to further highlight walkway. Drybrush pillars
and window frames Portrait then tip into White to highlight.
6.
Lightly drybrush roof with Hunter Green to give illusion of moss in
shingles; tip into Lt Yellow Orange to very lightly highlight.
7.
For the doors, drybrush with Brick Red evenly then tip into Christmas Red
to highlight. Paint hinges and knobs Flat Black. Lightly highlight with Light
Gray. Dry brush window frame Portrait and highlight White.
8.
On the body of the sign, apply Nubian Brown to horse and fence. Use
Hyacinth Blue for sky and Black Forest for grass. Spray. Evenly drybrush name
with Portrait. Lightly highlight sky with Blue Gray. Slightly drybrush grass
with Hunter Green then tip into Lt Yellow Orange to lightly highlight.
9.
For the horse, begin by evenly drybrushing with Chocolate then tip into
Brightest Yellow to make an orange color and drybrush this over the body.
Highlight further by tipping into Lt Yellow Orange. Paint eye, hooves, tail and
mane Flat Black and highlight with Light Gray.
