General Directions: Begin with properly cleaned and fired 06 bisque.  Thin down White and apply over entire piece to get into all detail.  When dry, apply another coat of undiluted White.  Allow to dry.  Apply Hyacinth Blue in small areas wiping back for highlights until entire piece is covered.  Dampen a soft cloth with Solvent to wipe back further highlights.  Spray with Porcelain Mist to set TL.  Reminder: In this technique, sometimes more than 1 coat of TL is necessary so between each coat, the color must be sprayed in order not to lift the first layer.

Technique

1.       Apply Warm Gray to the rocks then wipe back highlights; spray.  Very lightly drybrush rocks with Forest Green to give the illusion of moss.  Randomly drybrush a few rocks Forest Green, Mink and Brick Red.

2.       From the bottom edge pulling up, very lightly add shadow drybrushing with Flat Black.  Refer to photo for the effect.  Add highlights with Medium Gray pulling from the top edge down then lightly go over the sidewalk; tip into Eggshell to lightly highlight edge.

3.       For the siding and boat, apply Rich Walnut.  Wipe back highlights; spray.  Lightly drybrush siding with Olive Green then apply evenly to the fish on sign.  Spray.  Lightly drybrush siding with Mink; tip into Eggshell to highlight siding.

4.       Drybrush the boat, boat rack, edges of main sign and frame on fish sign with Mink; tip into Portrait to highlight then into Eggshell to highlight further.  For the boat, drybrush the bottom half with Brick Red.  For the rope and middle of the main sign, drybrush with Orange Rust.  Tip into Lt. Yellow Orange to highlight.

5.       Evenly drybrush the fish with Forest Green then tip into Brick Red to add color to the top part of the fish.  Drybrush the bottom of the fish, lip and fins with Lt. Yellow Orange then tip into Eggshell to highlight.  Paint the eye with Lt. Yellow Orange, lightly drybrush with Brick Red; apply Flat Black to the pupil and add a dot of Eggshell for highlight.

6.       Apply 2 coats of Holiday Red to the doors, small windows and eaves.  Spray.  Add highlights with Orange Rust.  Paint the window trims in doors with Eggshell and the handle plate with Flat Black, highlight with Medium Gray.  Drybrush the remaining windows with Dark Blue then tip into Eggshell to lightly highlight.

7.       Apply Black Forest to the roof and doorframes.  Use Black TL for the stack and flue.  Wipe back highlights; spray.  Highlight doorframes with Lt. Yellow Orange.  Highlight the stack and flue with Medium Gray.

8.      Evenly drybrush the rope ladders with Dark Brown and highlight with Lt. Yellow Orange.  Spray.  Paint doorknobs with Copper.  For that little extra, add Hi-Gloss Sealer to the fish.
