This 1800's style water-wheel driven sawmill was a very important part of every small town. Once there was a local sawmill, the buildings could be constructed from lighter planks, rather than heavy logs. This made construction both faster and cheaper.

Technique 1 (Advanced) Tl-106 Red

AC-516 Porcelain Mist Spray General: Base coat fired
04-06 bisque with 2 coats of White Acrylic. Thin the first coat with 1/3 water.
Using a soft brush, scrub over entire piece, getting into all cracks and
crevices. Apply a second coat of White Acrylic full strength. After each
application of a translucent stain (TL), spray with Porcelain Mist and allow to
dry. This will set the color to avoid smudging. 2. Apply Red/Brown Translucent to the foundation, wipe back, spray and allow to dry. Dry brush lightly with Brick Red. Using a soft cloth, rub a little Black around the edges, along the bottom, and up the sides of the arches from the bottom or places that would be darker from rain splashing. 3. Apply Green Patina lightly over the water areas including the water wheel. Wipe back, spray and allow to dry. Dry brush the water with Dark Blue, Rich Blue, Turquoise, Light Blue, Vanilla Ice and White. 4. Apply Red Maple to all of the wooden areas, including the water wheel. Wipe back, spray and allow to dry. Dry brush the wooden siding with Dusty Gray and Eggshell. With a soft cloth, rub some Rich Walnut under the eaves and the windows. 5. Apply Black Forest to the grass. Wipe back with a soft cloth, spray and allow to dry. Highlight with Tangelo and Sunflower. Using a soft cloth, blend all of the colors together. 6. Apply Black Translucent to the entire roof. Wipe back with a soft cloth, spray and allow to dry. Dry brush random tiles with Dusty Gray and Green Patina. 7. Dry brush the gravel and ramps with Dusty Gray then highlight with Eggshell. 8. Apply Ginger Oak to base stones. Wipe back, spray and allow to dry. Dry brush random stones with Dusty Gray, Vanilla Ice, Flat Black and Brick Red. 9. Dry brush sign with Light Blue and paint letters with Flat Black. 10. Paint nails and doorknobs with Flat Black. 11. Mix Forest Green and Dark Brown with Non-Fired Snow to make moss. Dab with stiff brush along small areas of the wheel and foundation to create a mossy look. 12. Spray entire piece with
Porcelain Mist and allow to dry.
Technique 2 (Novice)
General: Base coat fired
04-06 bisque with 2 coats of White Acrylic. Thin the first coat with 1/3 water.
Using a soft brush, scrub over entire piece, getting into all cracks and
crevices. Apply a second coat of White Acrylic full strength. After each
application of a translucent stain (TL), spray with Porcelain Mist and allow to
dry. This will set the color to avoid smudging. 2. Mix some Red Maple with Tangelo to create a cedar look. Apply to entire roof. Wipe back, spray and allow to dry. Randomly highlight the shingles with Toasted Pecan, Ginger Oak and Antique Ivory. Add more of the Red Maple Tangelo mixture for additional highlights. 3. In a random pattern, apply some Grey RT, Rich Brown and Sage to foundation stones. 4. Mix Slate Gray with several drops of Sterling Silver. Apply to the wooden wall boards and doors in small amounts and wipe off with water before the stains dry. Apply one coat of Weathered Crackle to all of the walls and doors and let dry. Apply a coat of White Acrylic to get the cracked effect. 5. For the wood siding around the water wheel, dry brush with Dark Umber then highlight with a mixture of Grey and Silver to give a shimmer look to the wood. Dry brush with Medium Mocha to highlight. 6. Dry brush Dark Umber to water wheel and highlight legs with a mixture of 3 parts Slate Gray and 1 part Sterling Silver. Highlight with Flat Black. Paint bolts and nails with Flat Black. Highlight the center of the buckets on the water wheel with Flat Black. 7. Dry brush water with Dark Blue. Lightly dry brush over Dark Blue with Rich Blue and Light Blue. Highlight with White. 8. Apply Black Forest to the grass. Apply some Tangelo and Sunflower, then wipe back with a soft cloth and blend the colors together. 9. Dry brush dirt with Medium Mocha and highlight with Dusty Gray. 10. Dry brush ramps with Dusty Gray and highlight with Vanilla Ice. Use a small amount of Dark Umber over the edges. 11. In a random pattern, dry brush the base stones with Golden Ochre, Brick Red, Dark Umber and Vanilla Ice. 12. Spray the entire piece and allow to dry. * People, lamp posts, and other props used for photography are not available in ceramic molds. Note: If you find a color that is discontinued, ask your Mayco distributor for a suitable replacement.
