Random Rantings...

Political block to Runway 6-24 extension (Letter to the Editor Erie Times-News) (Oct28-2002)
Local politicians block the proposed 1,900 foot extension of runway 6-24.  Extension includes a 500ft overrun to the rollout end runway 24 eliminating a 60 foot plunge onto Asbury Road.

Proposed Antenna near Corry-Lawrence Airport (Mar15-2002)
A southeast Erie County airport is in jeapordy of having an antenna installed in their traffic pattern. The Corry-Lawrence Airport is attempting to thwart attempts of a company to install a 155 foot antenna 700 feet southeast of the approach end and 560 feet north of the extended centerline of runway 32.  This will jeapordize safety in the traffic pattern.   NATCA Erie Tower recorded their objections with the FAA Eastern Region Airspace personnel.

Thermal G Gliderport (Mar15-2001)  This letter opposes company's proposal to construct a 325 foot AGL cell phone antenna on downwind leg of Rwy 25.  Fixed-wing, gliders/sailplanes and hot air balloons routinely operate in the area of proposed erection.

Communicating for Safety - ATL  (Sep15-16_2000)  NATCA's annual conference providng controller interaction with members of the pilot and other factions of the aviation community.

Federal Register Letter
(Nov 1999) NEXRAD installations left ERI in an area of non weather coverage below 10,000 feet.  The NWS then nearly closed the ERI NOAA/NWS office (due to political pressure, they have 1 observer and download the WSR-88 weather radar data to the CLE NWS).  When confronted, the NWS advised they plan to utilize one of the weather channels on the proposed ASR-11 site at ERI.

NWS Meeting   (Oct 27-1999)  Notes from the NWS Erie public meeting on lack of adequate weather radar coverage for the Erie area.

Video Maps   (Aug 6-1999)  EOVM Map outage and the failure of MCC to call in technician to repair.  AF-1 responded and this is our rebuttal to the FAA Adminstrator's Hotline
