German Coat of Plates ~1340
This body armour was made from 16 ga. mild steel and 7-9 oz. leather. The internal plates measure 2" x 4" and are attached to the leather using two rivets each. The internal plates are flat with rounded corners except for the plates that cover both sides of the lateral ribcage. Here the plates are given a slight curve to compensate for the tighter radius they must cover. The plastern ( chest plate) is made from the same material and was raised slightly to give it a better looking shape. It is attached to the leather covering using 8 countersunk steel rivets.
The steel shoulder protection ins made from 16 ga. mild steel. They were raised, ground and polished then attached to the CoP using hinge plates made from the same material. Each hinge plate is held in place using three rivets.
