The Spirit Throw

warr9a.tif (650071 bytes)

This is a triple woven Jacquard Throw

The Throw can be used as a wall hanging, game lap blanket, or sports bed spread.  In Erie, they only have Central,  McDowell, and East High School spirit throws.  The manufacture is Made in the USA by American Weavers.   It has a limited warranty by Good Housekeeping.  They are 100% virgin acrylic.   They are 50" x "58".  And the good news is they are only $19.99 at Wal Mart on upper Peach Street.  If you live out of town, you could probably order one through a near by Wal Mart.  They would make a great Christmas gift for that "Significant Warrior in your life."

New Years Greetin's to all of y'ns up along the lake!

Ligonier doesn't have nearly the snow you guys have, but we surely do
have ice and slush! It reminds me of winter Erie days when the trucks
would plow huge mountain ridges of snow along East Lake Rd past Wayne
Park and out east. I remember walking pathways along the tops of those
ridges and shudder now at how drivers must have been fearful of kids
falling into the street!

I enjoy very much your talk about breakfast at Barnie's. And that moves
me to make a monumental announcement which will surely please DiPaolo
very much. The old retirement door is going to open the end of April for
me. Yes, Dom, I'm not going to renege on this!
Then I'll have time to come and visit you at Barnie's!

To Dan - I still can't receive any of your letters with attachments. The
Juno people won't transmit that amount of data to me unless I get on
line. Alas, I've been unwilling to do that because every access is long
distance for us here in the misty mountains.

To Tommy and Wanda= Buon Natale! Vesele Vianoc! We had a nice
Christmas, a little quieter than most, but much appreciated.

We are watching the snow turn to rain after about a five inch all day
snowfall. There is already a layer of ice above the previous snow in our
back yard that is strong enough to support even me. Now we'll gat a
second layer!

God bless you all with a new year of prosperity and love.

Cordially, Bill Oesterlin

If the weather wasn't so bad maybe I could have driven from Fairmont,
WVA but drove home instead. Just got home,It took 4.75 hrs and it
usually takes 3.5. Spending too much time driving between Ashburn, VA
and Fairmont.  Wish I could join you.

From Dan Conley

Several people were kept away by the weather.   Don DiPaolo is still shoveling himself out of last weeks record snowfall in the Buffalo area.  We will see you next month possibly.

Dan, Wish I could join you and the others at Barnies for First Friday Breakfast, especially Pat Hart, whom I haven't seen in years. Ditto for Patty Simon. But, for better or worse, I'm still employed--as communications and marketing manager at Discovery Square at 4th and French. It's an umbrella organization for 3 museums--the Children's Museum, the Art Museum and the Erie History Center on State Street. But please keep me informed. I promise that one Friday I will make it.

Regards, Floyd

From Dan Conley,

See you then.  I always read your reviews of movies in the Erie Times Show Case. Your reviews are one of the many things I have enjoyed since retiring and returning back to the Bay City (Erie).  Would welcome you writing an article for The WARRIOR Newsletter.

Hello Elsie,

Although you graduated 11 years after your brother Jerry and me, I do remember

you.  Your brother affectionately called you Chicken.     I am glad you like the

web site  I met with Jerry the last time he was in Erie.   I remarked that we now all

look like our fathers except we are older.  When I saw Jerry, it was like meeting your

father after all these years.  One day we could have fun on the web having pictures of

classmates and their fathers and female classmates and their mothers.  We have many

alumni, one being from the class of '35, and my grandson, Class of  98 who drop by

now and again to catch some Warrior-News.  I imagine in the future, it will become

even more popular.  Have a Happy New Year, and I am happy to connect with you

after all these years.

HAPPY NEW YEAR DR. DAN,

The photo is quite clever -- you rascal you!   Can't look at it much, too
weird!

My favorite of all is that little dancing heartthrob on the opening HOME page.
He is so cool!  A good dancer with a terrific sense of rhythm.  The music is
just perfect.

Talked to Ruth Cagara Bergquist for about two hours today.  Tried my best to
get her interested in buying a computer so she can see what marvels you have
done for us.
She uses one at work (CIA) and does not care to have another at home.

May the new year be one of health, happiness and prosperity for us all!

Lots of love,

Mary Ann

Hi Dan
A note to let you know of an alumnus accomplishment.  Jack Maurer, class of
'51, was awarded Fellow status in the American Society of Mechanical
Engineers.  I saw this in the ASME Power Division newletter.

>Headline-"Jack Maurer Awarded "Fellow" Status
"Jack Maurer was awarded Fellow status as a member of ASME.  Mr. Maurer's
professional career spans 42 years at Allegheny Ludlum Steel, where he has
been responsible for the development and application of, corosion resistant
stainless steel tubing for use in heat exchanger applications in the electric
power generation industry."

Recognition of this accomplishment in the Warrior News would be appreciated.

There is also a picture with the article of Jack receiving the award, but my scanner is

not that good.

Enjoy the Friday Nite Trivia.  Keep up the good work.

Going to be vacationing in the Tampa-St. Petersburg, Florida?

Would you believe there are 26 classmates (51-54) living in the Tampa--St. Petersburg area.  At the Class of '53 Reunion, several classmates decided to plan a picnic for the "vactioners" and the Warrior residents living in the area.

The Picnic will be held on Valentine's Day

The old East High School will get new life after high school students move into the new school next door."

Those were the happy news lines written by Jule Gardner, staff writer for the Erie Times.  In an unexpected action taken by the school board for the Erie School District, East is saved from the wrecking ball.  The Erie school directors on Thursday rejected bids to demolish the old East in favor of keeping it as an option for temporarily housing other city students  whose schools will be under construction.

This is happy news for many alumni who felt saddened by the thought that the school would be torn down.  Although no time limits have been placed on how long the school will be used to temporarily house elementary children, it is likely that it will take several years to complete proposed construction of several Erie elementary schools.
